Added Sugars in Growing Up Milk Powders

Basically after the last posts, we have to admit thatthat many growing up milks contained too much added sugars that we don’trealize it. Who would have thought kan, milk can contained this much addedsugar that it could lead to obesity and diabetic? No no no! We do not wantthat. And am sure lots of youmommies are freaking out and thinking what should you do next.

Dearest mommies, would like to share videos from theProf. Peter Davies that I got from YouTube while browsing explaining in detailsof the role of sugars in children’s milk. Too bad i didnt get to meet them in person, this is for your future reference and of course itsalways nice to get input from the expert :)

From the video, understand that even World Health Organization(WHO) say that we should keep added sugar intake to less than 10per cent oftotal calories which is about 7 teaspoon per day maximum. And our childrendon’t actually need a lot of these added sugars such as glucose or corn syrupsolids and sucrose for energy and their developments. Well, the least you can do is to makethe right choice for your children. Follow the steps given in my previousblogpost and lets hope for the best :)

saja tergerak hati nak singgah sebabnya asyik cerita pasal gula je kan. jangan kau gelar diriku blogger :P tak layak lansung. haha.

well macam banyak sangat nak cerita tapi itulah dia takda semangat lansung nak type. siapa yg di twitter tu tau juga la update terbaru. cheh verangan orang nak tau kan. sekejap betul 2011 tapi part of me rasa lega gila tahun tu dah berlalu. no resolution whatsoever. i learnt that kalau kita nak berubah tak perlu tunggu bila or dimana. just do it :)

we didnt go anywhere pon for nye, received invitation from a good friend of mine but had to turned it down since we all tak berapa sihat. yes all 4 of us. nothing serious tho, cumanya boleh berjangkit jadi tak manis la nak lepak bagi penyakit kat orang pulak kan. it was so nice to just chill and watch tv all night long. sumpah best. lepas dah jadi mak kepada dua budak, nak bersesak2 is so not in my list.

ahh rindu sgt nak cerita pasal anak2 tapi memang masa tak mengizinkan. chewah. lepas maternity leave, macam busy giler ke i yang tak reti nak bahagi masa or i just dunno lah. balik rumah je mmg penat and masa yang sikit tu, fully utilized by kiddos. plus i was working on something supaya tak miss lagi apa2 and alhamdulillah mission accomplished! but insyallah, i ll try to write more about my 3yo Farell and soon to be 1yo Teja :)

The Role of Sugars and Sugars in Food Labelling

Actually to tell you the truth, I wasclueless about the role of sugars until I read the article on added sugars ingrowing up milk powder. At first I was quite shocked and got all confused butdid calmed down after clarified my issues. Now I know there are few types ofsugars and what are they made of. We sometimes tend to forget to check thelabel, just like me, I thought all milk powdersare healthy and ok since well, it is milk! Little did I know the amount of addedsugars they put inside it.

Excess added sugars in the diet can lead tooverweight and obesity in children and Asia (lets hope Malaysia is not at thehighest rank) has the largest number of overweight/ obese children. This is ofcourse not good and will affect theirdevelopment and make their health at risk in later life. Can you just imagineif your kids don’t get to do lots of activity just because they are overweight?So kesian! Don’t get me wrong, our children need all the nutrients but not theadded sugars. Excess added sugars can also be described as “empty calories” anddo not have any nutritious values. Gasp! Allthat energy are stored in the body and you ended up being fat.

For your information, in growing up milk labeling,sugars are declared as carbohydrate and we parents always mistakenly thoughtthat it is good. Example of a good carbo –banana, potato and more complex like bread. Again, yes they need the nutrientsbut not the added sugars. You might want to follow these3 easy steps for the labeling guidelines:-

Step1: Remember the names of added sugars

Sucrose, corn syrups solids, glucose,syrup, maltodextrin are the most common namesused in growing up milk so look out for all this names in the ingredient list!

Step2: Review the ingredient list

Ifyou could check every single detail before deciding and making any purchase.Please bear in mind that the list is always in descending order so theingredient at the top of the list are the most and those at the bottom are theleast.

Step3: Evaluate the Nutrition InformationPanel (NIP)

It is tricky to know the exact amount ofadded sugars in your growing up milk powder

because it is not mandatorily declared onthe label. However, you can still estimate how much added sugars are in yourcurrent growing up milk powder.

Firstly, remember that a typical serving ofstandard milk (~200 ml as consumed)contains about 11g-12 g of carbohydrates per serving.This is all lactose or ‘natural milk sugar’ in layman terms. This is thenormal, natural and healthy sugar level in milk.

Secondly, remember that the term‘carbohydrate’ in milk powder labels in Malaysia consists of only sugars(natural lactose + added sugars). Thisis because under the Malaysian Food Labelling Regulations, even though fibre isa part of carbohydrate, it is not included in the declaration of the totalcarbohydrate level on the product label. It is declared separately. This means in growing up milk powders, fibres are notpart of carbohydrates and sugars are part of carbohydrates.

Finally, look at the level of‘carbohydrates per serve’ in your growing up milk powder.

Anythingabove 11g-12g for ‘carbohydrate per serve’ level, is a good estimate of addedsugars per serve in the formulation.

These steps are important in order for youto make a better choice for your children. I am sure all parents would want thebest for their child this is one of the way for us to make things right and letour children grow happily and most important, healthy J

Never Doubt Yourself...

...and the inner strength you have in you. Well that sentence Iquoted from none other than Proton Persona – Better Undoubtedly ambassador, DJLin. She had the opportunity to mentor 3 single mothers and one of them is NorasikinMa’akim. She is one woman who would like to achieve a lot of things in life butlack of motivation and self confidence. One thing that she has in common withDJ Lin is that Norasikin is into broadcasting and wants to expand her knowledgeand gain experience from it.

In this programme, she had the chance to learn all aboutbroadcasting by being an intern at Suria FM for 2 months. She was exposed topublic speaking via the cruiser exercise and of course the best part she got tomeet other famous djs and celebrities. One of the challenges that she had toface is to go to work by bus which usually take her an hour to reach and toprepare her kids for school before that. Can you imagine how tiring is that?One hour in a bus? And she also tapau her food from home because its way tooexpensive to eat out L Kesiannya. Gosh, now I rasa insaf kejap sebab selalumakan main2 and tak habis.

Even though she had to face all this challenges, she did notgive up and she had gained a lot of confidence. She was also surprised with thelovely and relax working environment around the radio station. She neverthought and imagine being a dj but with this program she successfully co-hostSuria Cinta together with Dj Lin. A thing that she never thought she could dobut she managed to :')

DJ Lin also commented that Norasikin looks so differentsince the first time they met in Ibunda. Norasikin looks more cheerful and fullwith enthusiasm and more confident with herself. Well I guess if you wantsomething, yes you have to work for it. Things don’t come to us easily but weall shall work for it. And don’t let your mind control your action. Be open anddon’t under estimate ourserlves. Sometimes we all be ssurprised with ourcredibility. And to be around positive people and getting support from them,that plays an important role too. Please remember ladies, its reallynot the end of the world and there is always help. Just need to look out for it ;)

Have u ever feel generally down and sad?

And you feel like there is no one to talk to? And even if you have, you will have this thinking that people don’t understand you because they are not the one who facing the situation. Of course you do. In fact everyone does. It also depends to the support system around you. Recently I was shocked with the divorce cases that involved friends of mine and just thinking about it, make me sad. To start all over again with a judgmental community, man, it will take a lot of work. But life goes on sister.

Especially when you have children, you just got to do what you got to do. This remind me so much of my Mama. She did whatever it takes just to support me and sister :') and of course, just like DJ Lin, Persona – Better, Undoubtedly’ brand ambassador and Suria FM radio host. Ingat lagi tak this campaign? It was really a great idea of Proton for organizing the Enpowerment Day Workshop where about 60 single mothers from various background participating in various activities, including talks to build their confidence level and empower them with knowledge. The two-day workshop was also held to build a support system for the women to come together on a similar platform of sharing experiences, learning and motivating each other.

This 2 day session was held in Ibunda Restaurant where the session kicked off by with the mother sharing their personal experiences and stories with DJ Lin. Some of them were strong and happy, yet some were still vulnerable and hurt by their bad experiences. It was a morning filled with mixed emotions, and tears and laughter. I can imagine ... :( DJ Lin also shared her story where it was also quite a rough time for her whereby her family was in Johor and she was juggling with 3 jobs at that time. But with that situation she learnt about herself and had the courage to do many things she never thought she could. She said it was the learning experience that can only make us better. They were also talk on the topic of ‘How… from a single mother to a business owner’ by Puan Haniza Razif Bohlendera, successful businesswoman who was also a single mom herself. She shared her views how single mothers can generate side-income to sustain favourable living. Her session was followed by Encik Azril Bahaman and Encik Mohd Nasrul Shah Samsudin from the Securities Industry Development Corporation (SIDC) who shared their knowledge on financial planning and useful investment techniques and the day wrapped up by Hj Ahmad Fadzli, religious motivational speaker who spoke about the importance of accepting fate and moving forward in life.

Second day as an adventurous day for all mothers as they were given a free test drive of the Persona and also were given detailed explanation on the spec and features of the cars. DJ Lin herself admitted that she only took her license when she was chosen to be the ambassador of this campaign. They were also given a grooming session by CLEO team where they enjoyed themselves so much. I like what one of the participant said, “it is not about finding a new man in her life, it s more like the confidence you have in you”. The evening ended with a surprise from Proton where mothers got complimentary driving lessons to those who did not know how to drive. All this is part of inspiring the same confidence which PROTON has gained through Persona, which has risen above various challenges, to result in one of the top performing sedans in the market today.

Create Memories with Mum @ Aman Rimba

Dahlama rasanya tak join any event and thanks to Nuffnang, I was invited for agetaway last Saturday. Tak tahu apa nak expect sebab dah lama tak joinany event kan but was so tempted bila tahu ada makeover and skincare trial dalamitinerary. Terus Of course lah nak pergi kan! This event was organized by Her Worldmagazine so there were readers (mom and daughter pair) and of course usbloggers participated in this event. Seawal 8 pagi kami semua dah berkumpul dekat BluInc Office di PJ, nasibbaik dekat dengan rumah, so memang convenient nak pergi. Mula mula tu agakkekok jugak nak sembang2 tapi after awhile tu ok je.

Kitorang sampai di Janda Baik dalam pukul 10 pagi mcm tu andkena jalan sikit ke tempat kejadian iaitu di Aman Rimba. Bas memang tak muatnak masuk so we had to walked a bit to reach there. Nasib baik tak pakai heels,if not sure la dah terkehel. Tapi seronok je jalan sebabnya ramai kawan. Plusdah kata blogger, pastilah camwhore. Walaupun tengah trekking ke walking ke,camera dan kami tak dapat dipisahkan. Semua sporting habis.

If am not mistaken, jarak dari tempat kita turun bas denganAman Rimba ni lebih kurang 2km. Mengah uuu. Nasib baik makanan dah tersedia soterus makan akibat tak breakfast. Hehe. Mesti la kena makan sebabnya first activity was treasure hunt! kitaberpecah mengikut team masing masing yang terbahagi kepada 5 warna. Biru, pink,oren, kelabu dan team saya Kuning. Syarat yang paling utama dalam hunt ni, semuateam member harus bersama pada setiap masa dan kena habiskan task tersebutbefore nak dapat new task. I tak kenal sesiapa pun dalam team I, I berkenalanngan diorang during our hunt tu. Kebanyakkan team mates I semua mak mak yangvogue and anak diorang semua dah teenager tapi all of them are so energetic.Gigih ok buat task. Paling takleh lupa adalah task dimana we had to create acircle/hula hoop from a piece of A4 paper that can fit 2 persons at a time.Bukan 2 je, all members dapat masuk. Hehe.

Well if you are wondering what event is this, its actually aunique outdoor workshop organized and support by HerWorld and in conjunction tocreate awareness to public targeting girls age 14-19 and their parents oncervical cancer vaccination. Dr Yap Moy Juan, O&G of The Fetal MedicineGynaecology Centre Petaling Jaya was the speaker of the day. She was veryjovial and explained to us why it s important to stay healthy and get protectedagainst the third most popular cancer in Malaysia. During her session, she toldus that cervical cancer can occur at any age in a woman’s life and usuallywomen diagnosed with cervical cancer are between 35-55. These women were mostlikely exposed to HPV during their teens and 20s.

Bad newsfor smoker, they are also at higher risk as tobaccosmoke can produce chemicals that may damage the DNA in the cells of the cervixand make cancer more likely to occur. You should also not start smoking and quitsmoking, as this not only protects against cervical cancer but many othercancers and diseases. By the way HPV is transmitted through sex so you mightwant to delay it until you are officially a mrs ;) girls delay havingsex, better still wait til you get married, do not start smoking and last butnot least, do your pap smear check ups ya :)

It was a bit awkward when the slides were showing, somegirls giggled when funny pictures appeared and yes I can see that a lot of momsthere realized how important is is to have get the vaccination for theirteenage girls.

After the talk, we had lunch and freshen up. Lepas tu, thepampering session began! Skincare demo from Origins where we had to experiencethe latest product which only will be released next month. Dah lama nak tryOrigin products, dapat juga akhirnya. Percuma pulak tu, bertambah tambah suka :D

Then baru prizegiving :D Haha. Well takdelah berharap sebabnya kita tak dapat habiskan fewtask and ada jugak skip. So when they announced team yellow no 1, menjeritjerit la semua team members. Wehoo! We each received Victoria Jackson productsworth RM150! Yeay for teamwork and strategy :p

The workshop ended with a group photo session. So happeningokeh all this mothers with their daughters. They screamed and laughed andgiggles je throughout the day. No wonder all of them look so young ;p Thanks again HerWorld fororganizing such informative workshop and made my weekend more awesome andmemorable!

sumpah tahun ni punya bulan puasa berlalu dengan pantas sekali. 4 hari lagi Ramadhan akan meninggalkan kita. Harapnya dapat la berjumpa di tahun depan kan. Sob sob sob. Sayu sangat cuz i think this year mcm banyak kesedaran dan pengajaran yang boleh dijadikan panduan hidup dunia & akhirat. wahh. memang rasa mcm tak percaya cakap mcm ni ngan diri sendiri but am slowly learning.

anyway takde apa persiapan sangat untuk raya ni. except that i ordered too many cookies/kerepek. jajan tu ok but nowadays guest dont really eat cookies pun. they prefer to eat all the solid food yang mengenyangkan. so we had to give away some cuz i know kalau simpan, sampai raya haji also belum tentu habis.

since this is my first raya with a baby girl, of course excited lebih part baju. so teja got her baju done by diah s mom :) and we bought farell's at omar ali. so convenient to have their branch in ttdi. takdela kena pergi ke jalan tar ke ape kan. phew. cant imagine bersesak2 during festive season nih. as for mylo, dia akan pakai whatever he feels like wearing so kita tunggu saja. i pulak, i ada satu baju from ammara. hehe. bukan apa memang dah tahu this year tak sempat nak buat badan and baju, maka kita beli ready made sahaja. next year la baru matching2. chewah.

anyone masak sendiri this raya? wish i could cook rendang but naaah will take mama s la. dun dare to take the risk. karang semua orang sakit perut macam mana? *alasan* hewhew.

oh and will be celebrating raya dekat pj and kl. muahaha. tak thrill lansung. so sad dah takde kampung nak balik tapi umah mama kira my kampung la kan. still, missing the good ol days. lain betul suasana raya bila dah dewasa ni kan.

oklah, think am gonna stop rambling now. a little bit of pesanan, dear ladies please be extra careful where ever you go. ni nak raya ni toksah la suka sangat pakai gelang bling2. ingat2 sikit skang ni ramai orang yang kurang kasih sayang ya. berjalan kemana pandang semua angle tau. and sesiapa yang drive balik kampung berhati hati di jalan raya.

Remember the last exclusive test drive held in Penang? Yes, there was another one in Melaka and it was held at Philea Resort & Spa! Amboi bestnya, ye la selalunya test drive dekat showroom je kan? Yang ni Proton buat kat hotel 5 stars lagi you! Seramai 20 pasangan bertuah terpilih dan mengikut laporan ramai yang berpuas hati. Bukan sahaja mereka dapat mengenali kereta baru buatan Proton ini tapi mereka juga dapat menerokai kelebihan Exora yang merupakan MPV pertama Negara kita.

Aktiviti yang diadakan sepanjang program tersebut berlansung sama menarik seperti yang lepas dan paling penting kelainan yang Proton ingin tonjolkan dapat dilaksanakan dengan jayanya. Tak percaya? Lihatlah gambar – gambar yang dirakamkan pada hari tersebut. Meriah sungguh korang!

actually paling tak sabar the next day because i want to bring Farell to the petting zoo cuz dia mmg suka/obsess with animal esp rabbits :) So lepas je bfast, kitorang jalan2 sekitar hotel and menikmati the morning weather. It was nice bcuz the resort is well maintained so the garden, pathwalk to semua mcm baru je.

petting zoo opens at 1030am and they also let hotel guest feed the animals. Ada turtles, peacocks (also kat hotel compound dia mmg selamba je lepas) and rooster. farell happy sangat sampai tatau mana satu dia nak feed dulu. one of the hotel staff sangat friendly, he even teach farell how to feed the rooster and siap ask us to take picture of farell pegang all the animals. efficient and i guess he loves animal jugak.

Setelah selesai sesi beramah mesra dgn animals, the boys went for a swim and girls chillin by the pool. Actually ikutkan hati nak je terjun dlm pool tu sebab mcm best gile kan berendam kalau weather tgh panas. Tapi takpe, bila dah jadi mak ni, kenala berkorban apa sajaaa.

Lepas swim, we all pergi lunch dekat town and had all the masakan nogori. Bukan lupa nak amik gambar tapi tangan busy sebab pegang budak. Hehe. Took a nap then petang went to the beach pulak main pasir. Alhamdulillah, weather was great and farell had a good time albeit menjerit gak terkejut tengok anak2 ketam berlari ke arah dia kan.

Thought of just ordering room service for dinner since kids mcm dah flat and so malas nak keluar but fikiran melayang jugak teringat udang from the restaurant yesterday. So pergila ke Seri Mesra, tak jadi tapau terus makan je kat sana :D

Otw balik to hotel, tetiba nampak PD mcm best and cantik sangat. Selalu macam tu kan, bila dah last nite, sure rasa sayu je nak tinggal that place. Masa tu la weather best, laut cantik. Heh.

The next day after breakfast, of course Farell wanted to swim again but bonda tak larat and it was still too early to swim. Last2 i bagi dia main air dlm bath tub je. Since dia tak penat lagi, i decided to bring Farell to the Kids Club while Mylo looked after Teja kat bilik. Ada playstation, tv with all cartoon s channel, ada lego/blocks, activities like colouring and even cooking class for kids. Since we all tak banyak masa, we opt for the batik painting. Bukan batik exactly, it was just water colour with cloth. There were few pictures you can choose and he picked the elephant. Animal lagi. hehe

after habis painting we all pun pack up and balik kl. to be honest with you, it was really tiring but short getaway was much needed and paling best sekali bila dapat spent time with my lil family. since i got back from maternity, did not get the chance to spend quality time with em so rindu gila kot. alhamdulillah, it was a good break. insyallah ada rezeki mau pergi lagi :)

Fuhh Fuhh. *tiup habuk*

Lama gile tak update kan? Hehe. Takpe kali ini i nak update on our short trip to PD last month. Memang takde dalam plan pun tapi tetiba my leave was approved and we had the extra kaching! So off we go to PD. Why PD? Sebab paling dekat and banyak hotel. At first we wanted to stay at Legend Water Homes but got mixed reviews and decided to stay at Avillion. Best and puas hati sangat2 with the hotel and services! After dah check in, kitorang keluar cari makan tapi frustnya macam takde yang menarik sangat. Last2 jumpa satu foodcourt yang ada jual sate samuri. Boleh je laa.

Of course bila u nak pergi vacation with your kids, they are your top priority kan? So i made sure that the hotel ada macam2 aktiviti so that we dont have to move a lot. Hihi. Ada jugak plan nak pergi tengok ostrich tapi tak sempat pon. We just lepak and spent most of our time at the hotel pool/compound. Our room bersebelahan dengan kids club, opposite the kids pool and beside the cafe where we had our daily bfast. Awesome gile.

kids slept at the daybed, didnt wanna take the risk since teja s nickname is roll over queen ^____^

after freshen up, went to check out the kiddy s pool since takde orang so we had the pool to ourselves! Farell was really looking forward to play with the water cuz it has been awhile for him. Seronok sampai tak nak keluar. I remember dia dulu tak takut lansung, now mcm takut sikit :( Maybe sebab dah lama n tak biasa. Lepas ni mmg plan nak hantar dia to swimming lesson. Hotel ni ada 3 pool semuanya. One for kids, one for adult and another one for both. Weather was good too. Breezy je :) Lepas swim, siap pergi makan dinner pulak.

kan masa sampai we went to search for makan2 place, we found this malay seafood restaurant, Seri Mesra. A bit skeptical at first tapi bila udang sudah berada dlm mulut, terus tak toleh dah. Boleh pilih seafood n nanti dia masak ikut citarasa you :) Sedap and harga pun mmg sangat berpatutan. I got to eat in peace when both kids dah surrender awal2, hihi. If not jangan harap nak rasa makanan tu betul2. Lepas makan, balik hotel and tito!

Ramadhan 2011

salam :)

hows your ramadhan so far? alhamdulillah mine is great :) well except yesterday, a bit kelam kabut to managed the two kiddos masa berbuka. today better cuz i got off early from work. got to cooked for buka for the past two days. i did not buy anything yet from pasar ramadhan :) i dont have the time pun nak pergi actually. by the time sampai rumah terus prepare je apa nak makan.

since both kids dah tido, here i am ramblin. i got so many pics to upload and whatnot but so so malas. but i d like to share with you things that happened recently. first, we got into an accident in front of eastin pj but nothing major. both kids ada dalam kereta. semua ok except the car cuz it got hit at the back. kuat jugak. so bila kena, impak kuat .. both kids cried at the same time. mula2 i dgr dentum tu panik pastu bila dgr je anak nangis terus diam. calmed myself then hug both tightly. alhamdulillah syukur sangat2 tak kena apa2 kat we all. cant imagine if anything happen to em. well i know i am a mother but that incident made me realize that how much my kids need me. such a mothalovin feeling.

tetiba teringat mama. i miss hangin out with her. now both of us are so busy :( gosh, tak suka betul perkataan busy tu. banyak benda jadi around me that made me appreciate life more. apatah lagi family since i hardly spend any time with them. hope to make this all up when the time comes. u just never know what will happen.. banyak sangat benda jadi, mungkin tak kena kat kita lagi tapi what if it happen to you or your family? jadi bersyukur la kalau masih cukup makan dan ada pakaian. kesian orang yang takde.

this ramadhan i hope i can gain something. i dunno what is it that am lookin for but all i want is to be a better person. To everyone. And i hope all of you would gain something too. Kurangkan shopping *reminder to myself* and lebihkan amalan ya :) Moga kita semua dapat keberkatan Ramadhan ini. Amin.

Disney Junior!

Am sure by now u all know that Playhouse Disney is now known as Disney Junior and lucky me i was invited to a lovely dinner with other mommies! We had a special guest came all the way from USA, Nancy Kanter :) She s like the "creator" for Disney Junior. Had a great time catchin up with the ladies. Dah lama tak pergi event so bila dapat jumpa, rasa best gile! Makanan pulak sedap belaka. Haih teringat2 :D

Bukan malam tu je i dapat jadi kanak kanak riang, 2 minggu lepas we all pergi pulak event Disney Junior Ahoy to Never Land kat Bukit Kiara Equestrian Club. Yes, it was an outdoor event. Too bad Farell was not feeling well, tak hyper seperti biasa. Only bila dapat jumpa Mickey and Minnie baru ok sikit. Event start pagi but we all reached there only after the opening so tak sempat jumpa Zahid. Games semua seronottt of course la mak budak yang excited kan. Tapi ada jugak yg we all skip especially yg kena beratur panjang. Of course met lots of friends but tak sempat la nak bergambar bagai. Lari sana, loncat situ, sibuk nak dapat goodie bag :)

Disney Junior Rawks!

Teja: The First 4 Months

just realized that i have not been updating about her since the daycare post. ya ampun, am chorrry bebeh :D well, it is quite sad that i dont get to see her milestone myself. its either the babysitter or mylo yang akan update me.

so anyway, macam bayi bayi yang baru habis pantang, Teja tukar sleep pattern when she was 2 months old. Bangun 2 kali and then when dia nak masuk 3 months, sekali je. Aaaah such a good baby! Macam faham je bonda dia kerja kan :) Dia tak kuat sangat nangis, only when lapar and basah. Kalau nangis pun lembut je. So far no problem since hantar ke nursery, Alhamdulillah.

started cooing masa 2months plus, everytime balik kerja dia suka kena agah and then she would talk in her language. check out this video yang i sempat amik. mcm dia mengadu something :)

this girl memang tak banyak karenah. daytime dia nak main, dia tak tido tau. usually dia power nap je. lol. a light sleeper she is. tak boleh bising or dengar any sound, pastilah terjaga. she kenal orang jugak so tak boleh sebarang kalau nak bagi kat orang.

dah meniarap so tak boleh simply tinggal. cepat betul lah. ingat baby days lama skit tapi since cepat (sobs!) haruslah berhati- hati. dia bukan kisah, pernah dia roll sampai hujung katil, kaki dah agak terkeluar, relax je dia. takde nangis or rasa janggal ke ape.

ohh btw her hair is curly kecik2 tu. kalau mandi memang nampak ketara, ikut bapak sangat. mmm what else yah? hehe. i love to gomol her because she still cant say no or halang me like her brother. hihi.

A New Car Perhaps?

I am not into cars but I must confessed that I do love ourcurrent car! Not only it has sweet memories, I really do think it’s a good citycar. And I thought that feeling will last long but no! Not when you have 2 kidswith you +______*. When we had Farell tak terasa sangat cuz we still cansqueeze things but now there are 2 of them, their must bring stuff, bulkythings like stroller and car seat, itupun carseat satu je. Imagine la kalaudua2 kena pakai carseat in that car, mesti tak muat nak letak barang apa2.

We got no otheroption since we do not have anyone to look after them when we are out and thatexplain why we have to buy groceries separately. Because if nak keluar we haveto bring both kids. And last night, wanted to treat mom in law for dinner andjust look how crowded the car was…

This is only a dinner outing, what if we need to go for aholiday? With all the luggages and stuff? And since the car is occupied with us all thetime, we cant afford to give anyone s a ride. Hehe. Kadang kesian tgk orangjalan kaki panas, nak tolong tak boleh kan sebab kereta sempit sikit. Nak tumpangkan kawan kena berhimpit juga.

If we want to add another family member, we definitely needa new car. This cute car just dont fit us anymore. Any type of sedan don’t meetthe requirements so I strongly feel a nice mpv would be just nice for us. But of course, it has to be local. Mana nak mampu beli keta imported ni :P Lagi-lagi big cars.

Truth About Child s Growing Up Milk

Sincemy previous post regarding added sugar in Farell s growing up milk, I have beendoing some research and trying to understand more on the contents of variousadded sugar in his growing up milk. There were so many information and got soconfused with all the facts but I still have to find ways to understand toensure that I don’t simply give him things that are not meant for him.

Some facts aboutsugar:

Sugar are sugars

There are different names for sugars being used - natural sugars, added sugars, natural plant sugars, corn syrup solids, sucrose, and glucose syrup solids. They are all basically the same providing extra calories and all end up the same inside a child's body.

Too much added sugars is the problem

Sugars are not necessarily bad as they can help provide the energy that growing children need. However, when the level of added sugars in a growing up milk powder, becomes excessive; it can increase the risk of health problems for children now and in the future; and it does not align with any local or international recommendations.

'Carbohydrates' in milk powder consist of only sugars

Under Malaysian food labelling regulations, the 'carbohydrate per serve' number in the Nutrition Information Panel (NIP) on your child's growing up milk powder is only made up of two things:

(i) Sugar that is naturally present in the milk powder. The only naturally present sugar in milk is lactose.

The naturallactose level in a glass of standard milk is approximately 11g-12g per serve.

(ii) Sugars that are added tothe milk powder. Anything higher than11g-12g for ‘carbohydrate

per serve’ in growing up milk powder is equal toadded sugars Handbook of dairy foods and

nutrition. 2^nd Ed. National

With all these facts, i am sure you will be wondering whichgrowing up milk is the best as most milk in the market contains the addedsugar. And also if added sugar is ok to be consumed by our children, why do wehave to worry? After all some say a child needs carbohydrate in their food intake.My concerns are which of the ingredients are really considered sugar?

I have done my survey and I found out that mostgrowing up milk brands in the market does contains high amount of added sugar(based on the semakgula website calculator) and now am not sure. Based on thedisplay of the content label on the pack, yes it is quite a shock to know howmuch sugar we are giving it to our kids. Most of the growing up milk in ourmarket contained all the added sugar but what we can do is to look out for thedisplays or the label behind the milk pack and compare which you think has thelowest amount of all. It is good if you as a parent understand and be aware ofthe decision you made on the products to use for your children.

I wasstill unsure about the added sugar and clarified with the dietician on whichsugar is ok to be consume by kids at Farell’s age, the dietician informed methat all sugars provide the same amount of calories therefore the issue here isnot what type of sugar, how much added sugar that they consumed. And it isadvise to have 1 to 2 serving of milk or dairy products in diet as recommendedby Malaysia healthy food pyramid, not just children, for adult’s diet too.There is no age limit on when to stop your kid to drink milk as milk and dairyshould be part of a healthy person s diet throughout their life.

Well,that was my issues and am glad I have asked all the questions. It ease my minda little. What you can do as parents,do check the following before making decision on your child growing up milk :-

1. Check your growing up milk powder pack

There are two things youcan check on the label of the pack:-

- Find the number for‘carbohydrate per serve’ in the NIP. Remember anything higher than

11g-12 is added sugars.

- Look at the ingredient listfor the names corn syrup solids, sucrose and glucose syrup solids.

These areadded sugars ingredients.

2. Taste your child’s growing up milk

When was the last time you really tasted your child’s growing upmilk? I suggest you do it today or now! Take notice of how sweet it is.

I did! And gosh it was really sweet and my hands were all sticky. That shows it contains lots of sugar to gave me that affect.

3. Talk to others about what you find – Sharing is Caring

Do share on what you discover with other mums and dads. With allthe technology around, spread all the info you found. Chat, call, SMS, email,Tweet, Facebook – whichever works for you. You can also talk to your doctor orhealthcare professional for more information.

I love item no 3! And hope you don’t mind sharing it with me. Inthe meantime, you might want to do all the steps above before deciding on yourchildren s milk. Do not jeopardize their health by being ignorant and do someresearch before believeing all facts that you see on the label. Being concernis rock! :D

The other day Iwas browsing through my facebook page, and after few hours, I stumbled uponthis website from Friso called Growing Up Together. It all started with a book by Amy Chua title“Battle Hymm of the Tiger Mother”. In this sensational book she draws adistinction between “Chinese Mothers” and “Western Mothers”; namely, “ChineseMothers” acting as tigers that want full control over the destiny of theirchildren, believing that they know best while “Western Mothers” opt for freedomand the joy of exploration on their children. Sounds familiar? Hehe. Well it isreally an eye opening to see parents debating especially on the topic“parenting”. Being a young parentcan be exciting and rewarding but also a bit tricky. I grew up with a veryflexible mom. I did not have any curfews but my mom will keep calling to checkwhere I was. Most of the times I get to do whatever I want but of course thereis a limit. My mom was not that strict. But what exactly is a “TigerMother”? Mother who control their kidsand use the mother knows it all rules. That was what Chua described though. Ihave not read the book but I will get it soon. I read the reviews and thecontroversy, so interesting! Some of the things that she didn’t allow her kidsto do are:

attend a sleepover
have a playdate
be in a school play
complain about not being in a school play
watch TV or play computer games
choose their own extracurricular activities
get any grade less than an A
not be the No. 1 student in every subject except gym and drama
play any instrument other than the piano or violin
not play the piano or violin

I might say no to point no 1. Just like my mom, Idon’t like the idea of my children to go other people s house bedroom tosleep. As for the rest, it can beconsider depending on their interest. Seriously how can we say no to tv whilewe introduced it to them as early as their baby days? And not too play computergames? Some of my friends are into computer games and they are parents too. Iam not sure how they can ever say no to their kids. It will be tough toexplain, don’t you think? Kids nowadays they demand explanation that beyondyour imagination.

The Book

Oh no, am I bad mom for not being a “tiger” much?Then what about my mother? Is it because she allows me to do most of the thingsand I became what I am today? It is also proven that with this way, your kidwill achieve what you want them to achieve. But are they really happy with whatthey have decided for them? Hmmm. What do you think? it will be my phone, wallet, makeup bag, pendrive and eye solution :)

kalau takde satu item ni, rasa tak lengkap dan mungkin akan menghantui jiwa. pendrive tu tak sangat la tapi kdg2 kalau pasal kerja/homework, nak simpan apa2, senang tau.

phone kalau tinggal? sanggup balik rumah or suh mylo hantar :p

i tak pegang kunci rumah and since berat, i malas nak bawa sekali. ok tu je :)

Both sisters are so cute! Suka gile when they face any problem in their shop, they always work together to solve it. Bila diorang argue and then one of them sure beralah.

And their mom pun comel!

Selalu kena marah bile menyeboks :P

he rawks so smoothly got me all droolin. :D

i love his voice and all his songs. i used to like usher but somehow ada jugak lagu yang mcm tak best. But with JL, i love it all! And sometime i think he is the guy version of A Keys :)

MARRIED

It is great but only with lots and lots of team work and effort

It is really easy to get bored and lazy with each other after some time

but all the pain is worth if its with the right person :)
